Mural Design // “Wonder” Mural

Custom mural design and installation

In the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic, I found myself itching to create a mural. As the home I was in had a (then lime-green) tiny reading nook, I figured it would be the perfect space to try out a new design challenge. Measuring almost exactly 6 feet square, the wall was the tallest point in a room with a sloping ceiling. With limited space to look at the mural from afar, I knew that designing something with large, bold text and some whimsical movement elements was necessary. I began the design process on good old-fashioned pencil and paper, but quickly moved to Procreate for the final colors and outlines. The design was transferred to the wall using transfer paper, and then taped off and painted. In an effort to economically reuse some light blue paint I had at home, I ended up making a few color adjustments to make the final colors more on the pastel end of the spectrum.

Materials used: Behr paint, Purdy brushes (1” and 2.5”), dropcloth, transfer paper, pencil, water buckets, rags.
